Gameplay & Mechanics
Slime rancher is a silly farming simulator game where you take role of a farmer named Beatrix LeBeau, games controls feel very smooth and intuitive. The mechanic of customising your farms layout on premade plots is not innovative, but it is appreciated as it allows for some customisation based on playstyle or aesthetics. Slime rancher does well with balancing the games economy and gain of products to sell (plorts). I enjoyed the game a lot, only issue I found with gameplay loop was that I lacked where to spend my money, later in the game only option is upgrading farms looks via 7Zee club. Difficulty doesn’t change much through out the game and stays reasonable nor there are issues with pacing.
Story & Narrative (if applicable)
For a farm simulator Slime rancher has nicely developed story and narrative of the world. Multiple Npc’s you can indirectly interact with, story notes spread across the map from the previous farm owner and guide book(Slimepedia) with details about different biomes and slimes. Npc’s aren’t developed deeply, but they have their own charm which can be felt through fun interactions via daily messages. The worldbuilding feels quite empty, yet logical. Nearly every place has a least one kind of a slime or a critter spawning, but the scenery and structures in some places lack detail and “life”. Narrative is not main focus of the game, but for those who want to follow it there are convenient story notes spread across the map which quite effectively followijng natural progression of the game. The game lacks interactive story cutscenes, but their absence is not noticeable at all.
Visuals & Art Direction
The game follow a cartoony, silly and lively art style which compliments its simplicity and overall calming atmosphere. Vivid contrasting colours stimulate the feeling of whimsy this game brings. Environments don’t lack detail and feel cohesive, some parts do feel a little deserted. Animations are great and don’t interrupt the fluidity of the gameplay, they feel lively and compliment the games sillyness. Personally, I would agree that the game has unique visual identity, even if it has quite simple artstyle, this can be seen with screenshots of slime ranchers environments. If I was shown a screenshot of slime rancher I believe I could easily identify it.
Audio & Music
Slime Rancher has lots of unique and great sound effects and OST’s. From the sound of slimes hitting surfaces to calming OST’s of biomes. There is barely to no voice acting in the game, yet it doesn’t feel like it is needed, every NPC has their own sound effects that fit their personality. OST music is created excellently, most of the tracks are very calming! I am not a person to like game OST’s however for slime rancher I can turn some on to play in the background. Overall music in slime rancher is amazing, it doesn’t compare to titles like undertale, but it has its own simple and calming charm.

Performance & Technical Quality
Slime Rancher PC requirements are very light. There are minor to no bugs in the game, loading times are short. I haven’t tried Slime Rancher on Nintendo Switch, yet I did play it on Xbox and PC, I have had zero issues with the game.
Replayability & Content
The game is definitely worth the price for the content it has, as the sequel of the game has been released Slime Rancher has often featured sales on steam. The game can be played endlessly, but eventually you will run out of things to do. There isn’t any variety in gameplay paths, only difference is in farms colouration.
Emotional Impact & Engagement
Game has kept me very engaged as I have fully maxed out all the content in the game. Most memorable moment would be unlocking new biomes for the first time, discovering new slimes and losing most of my farm to mistake of combining three slime kinds. The game brings me the feeling of serenity and nostalgia.
